Here’s a look at some of our changes: Adoptions and fosters : Labor Day Adoption Special 9/4 to 9/7---> visit our adoption page for details and to sign up for an appointment! Our regular adoption hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends at the West Valley animal shelter only. Labor Day we are open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We are utilizing appointment-only adoptions through online signups and a revamped adoption web page during the health crisis. In-person services: During the COVID-19 pandemic, services are limited to stray dog intakes, stray dog bite intakes, stray cat bite intakes and lost dogs returned to owners at our West Valley animal shelter only. Temporary closures: East Valley Shelter, 2630 W. Rio Salado Parkway, Mesa, ended adoption appointments April 5 and temporarily closed for repairs and cleaning while it is vacant. No services will be offered there and no strays admitted. All dogs have been transferred to our West Shelter, 2500 S. 27 th Ave. Phoenix, or other boarding facilities. Volunteer program: The volunteer program has been temporarily suspended as of April 1 to limit the number of people inside the shelter. County staff has been redeployed to assist in other areas to assist with essential tasks such as kennel cleaning, enrichment and daily care of animals. Field services: Response times to requests for field services may be longer than normal. Please allow up to 72 hours for stray dog pickups. Call 602-506-7387 for information on stray dog pickups. Residents may bring stray dogs to West Valley animal shelter only. We do not accept nor pick up stray cats. Stray dogs: Those who find stray dogs are asked to file a report with the shelter, try to find the dog’s owner and if they aren’t successful may bring the dog to the West Valley Shelter, 9-6 weekdays and 9-5 weekends or call 602-506-7387. People are encouraged to list the dog missing on the shelter’s Lost and Found website . Our Lost and Found Department is adding staff and hours in an effort to return more lost pets to their owners. Licensing: Residents are asked to license their dogs online or call 602-506-7387 for any questions regarding licensing. Due to the difficulty in obtaining rabies vaccinations at this time, fees will be adjusted as appropriate.
